A tractor-trailer caused thousands of dollars in damage to a historic building on the Cornwall Manor campus on Thursday.

Around 550 a.m., staff at Cornwall Manor watched the truck driver back up on Rexmont Road after seeing the Snitz Creek bridge closed.

The trailer struck the roof of the Paymaster’s building, damaging the roof and wooden lattice work and tearing a hole in the trailer.

The truck then went forward, knocking down a sign at the Cornwall Manor Food Center before turning around in the grass at the Cornwall Iron Furnace.

The Paymaster’s building, which is now used as an artist studio, was build around 1860.

Witnesses report seeing the words Trans Am on the trailer, which left a trail of foam insulation at the scene due to the damage to the trailer.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Cornwall Borough Police at 274-2071.
