A Maryland man is recovering after he was hit in the face with a shovel and then hit with a rock.
New Holland Police say they responded to a call at 716 Maple Grove Road on June 29, for an assault. When officers arrived, they found Thomas Martin, 36, semi conscious. Officers learned Martin had gotten into a fight with his brother, Gerald Hanna, at their parents' home. Police say Gerald hit Thomas in the face with a shovel. Then as Thomas was running away, Gerald picked up a large rock and threw it at Thomas, striking him in the head.
Thomas was taken to Lancaster General Hospital's Trauma Unit. Officials say he had a fractured skull and other injuries.
Hanna was arrested on an outstanding warrant on Tuesday July 9th. Hanna was charged with aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. He was taken into custody at his home. He was taken to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Thomas has been released from the hospital and has returned to his home in Maryland.
