Two doctors at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital were given over a quarter of a million dollars in grants to help support their pediatric cancer research.
The grants were all a part of Hyundai’s Hope on Wheels program where they have donated a total of $325,000 to support pediatric cancer research in Central Pennsylvania.
Dr. Dovat and Dr. Gowda are the recipients of the grant. The money was rewarded as a part of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the money is being used to help fund research on leukemia in children.
They’re working towards finding a cure and they say the more money they get to research, the faster it helps them get results.
“It gives an opportunity to do cutting edge research,” explained Dr. Sinisa Dovat. “This allows us to speed up our research discoveries and both physicians to practice for a thing that should take 4-5 years we’ll probably do in a year or two.”
“The overall goal of this is to identify targets where we can use certain drugs and treat leukemia with minimal toxicity,” added Dr. Chandrika Gowda.
There were 41 total recipients of this year’s Hope On Wheels grants totaling in over $10 million nationwide.
