American Red Cross –Hanover: Volunteers are needed to train and help with disaster services, health and safety education, food pantry, clerical, or blood drives. Phone: 1-800-REDCROSS. http://www.hanoverredcross.org Orientation, training and background checks required.

American Cancer Society of York: The ACS is looking for a variety of volunteers to help with several fundraisers and events. We are currently looking for people to help drive patients to and from their doctors' appointments, drivers to help deliver daffodils in March, and volunteers to be in Relay for Life teams and to help with Relay for Life Events. We are also looking for volunteers to help with health fairs and finding building space for patients to have wig consultations. We are looking for adults of all ages. Drivers must have a current driver's license. Contact: Melissa Murphy, (717) 397-3745

Big Brother Big Sister: Become matched with a youth between the ages of 5 through 13 and spend 2 to 4 times a month in activities that provide children with skills to manage everyday challenges. Sunday-Saturday: Mornings, Afternoons and Evenings are available. Once you have gone through the process to become a Big you will be in contact with your Little to schedule times to meet. Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is a rewarding and fun but also serious responsibility. You are a role model for your Little and have the opportunity to help direct them towards healthy, happy experiences - while being a shoulder to lean on through hard times.
Must complete application process. http://www.bbbs-york.org

The Broken Wall-Teen Center Volunteers: Do you enjoy talking with teenagers (12-18 year olds)? Do you want to impact our future? Then we have the opportunity for you...a center volunteer.
Our center is open for teenagers to hang out, do activities, have fun, learn, and just be told they are important and that they do matter!
We have no paid staff and everyone that helps is a volunteer. We would love to be able to have the center open four days a week, but we need volunteers to staff the center. As a center volunteer you'd be monitoring the teenagers, interacting with them, engaging in conversations with them, trying to get them to take part in the other activities that will be going on at the center; overall you'd be helping to ensure that every teenager knows they are welcomed and that they walk out knowing that someone cares about them and their future!
I realize a lot of people have written teens off, for whatever reason(s), but they are our future and they do matter...they need opportunities to learn and grow just like you and I have had.
There would be an application packet to fill out, that would include a background and child abuse clearance check. The biggest requirement is enjoying being around teenagers. Carrie Bailey, Executive Director, (717) 332-1475
