A Cumberland County man found out the meaning of the popular phrase, "No soup for you." He was arrested after throwing a cup of chicken corn soup at the wall of a Shippensburg diner.
The Shippensburg Select Diner will celebrate its one year anniversary next month. It draws university students with an all-the-time 10 percent discount.
Customers say service is great and the employees friendly. But one man did not agree with those opinions.
Police say Mark Taylor went into the West King Street restaurant the other night, ordered a cup of soup to go and then left with his purchase. The 54-year-old man returned minutes later, cursing and yelling that the container spilled soup over the front seat of his car.
An owner offered to clean up the spill if Taylor calmed down. Dissatisfied with that attempt, the customer said he'd be satisfied with another cup of soup, but not to bother packing it up.
What happened next surprised everyone there, even the owner.
”I don't want this to happen again. I do not need it,” stated owner Steve Kamer. “I didn't know he was thinking to do something. Then the waitress gave it to him and as soon as he grabbed it, he asks is this you’re soup? Then he throws it on the wall and it splashes over to the cash register."
That’s right; Taylor took the soup and threw it. Shippensburg Police caught up with Taylor a short time later. He was subsequently charged with disorderly conduct and scattering rubbish.
Kamer says he feels badly for the customer. But it was Taylor's actions that forced him to call police.
