Lower Swatara Township police charged two juveniles for bringing a loaded handgun onto Middletown High School's campus.  The incident postponed Friday night's homecoming dance.

Police say on Friday a Middletown Area High School student saw another student take a handgun out of hiding place in the boys bathroom and put it in his backpack.  The student immediately told school staff, and the school activated the district's emergency plan.

The school's Resource Officer and Juvenile Probation Officer confronted the student with the weapon and he was taken into custody.  An investigation found another student had hidden the gun in the bathroom.  That student was taken into custody.

The two students are charged as juveniles with possession of weapons on school property, possession of firearm by a minor, firearms not to be carried without a license, receiving stolen property, terroristic threats and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Lower Swatara Police continue to investigate the incident.

Friday's homecoming dance is postponed; the homecoming football game is still on schedule for 2:00 Saturday afternoon.  There will be increased security and police patrols at the football game.
