From Harrisburg Area Riverboat Society, Inc:
The Pride of the Susquehanna was on a routine Fall Foliage Dinner Cruise last night (October 15, 2012) when at about 7PM the bow of the 100-ton vessel glided over a gravel bar and became stuck. It was not violent nor was there any damage to the Pride or any injuries to any of the passengers.
The captain attempted to move the vessel (the rear was free, so the paddle wheels were able to turn), but was unsuccessful in his efforts. Passengers were alerted to what happened, and all seemed in good spirits and to be enjoying themselves in spite of the situation. River Rescue was also alerted to come see if the could assist. After a few more unsuccessful attempts, passengers were ferried back to shore and the captain and crew continued to work at freeing the Pride.
Please note that this incident is not a normal occurrence. The vessel is currently stuck on the gravel bar and we are attempting to return it to the dock. We would like to thank the captain, crew, and staff for their professional and skilled handling of this situation! HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The riverboat ran aground during a sunset cruise.
A water rescue was called in to help remove passengers from the Pride of the Susquehanna at around 7 p.m. Sunday. Approximately 50 people were on board.
Harrisburg River Rescue used a small boat to transport 5-6 passengers at a time back to land.
The boat was beached about halfway across the Susquehanna River, south of the Harvey Taylor Bridge.
Officials say no one was hurt.
It's unclear how much damage the boat sustained. Heavy equipment is being brought in to remove it from the river.
