You do not have to show an ID to vote next month. But if you watch TV, you might think differently.
Critics say a voter ID commercial telling you to bring identification is confusing voters.
Lawyers who helped bring a halt to the controversial Voter ID Law are now trying to pull ads off of the TV encouraging people to show their ID's at the polls after many people say the ad is confusing.
"If you want to vote - then show it - show it - show it - show it," exclaims the commercial.
A commercial by the Department of State running across Pennsylvania is causing confusion and controversy.
"It's very confusing. 'Show it - show it' telling you that you need to show it and making people believe they need to show it for this election,” commented Dauphin County Democratic Committee Chairman Marilyn Levin. “That's not true."
The Director of Communications and Press Secretary for the Department of State spoke to voters Friday explaining the Voter ID Law and how it will affect voters.
"For this upcoming election you will be asked to show a photo ID when you go to the polls,” commented Rom Ruman, “but it will not be required to vote."
Still, members of the community are upset at the advertising.
"The whole thing was a continual push to suppress the voters,” stated concerned voter James Carter. “The ads should have been pulled."
The Chairman of the Dauphin County Democratic Committee thinks the commercial is being used as a political tool by the Republican Party to get Romney elected to office.
"Trickery and thievery and everything else they want to keep seniors at home, they want to keep African Americans at home, young people, this is an abomination and we as the electorate should not allow it," urged Levin
"You know like I know, even in reading ads very few people read the entire ad,” Carter told us. “They read and they focus on what's been explained and broadened out."
