A Capitol Police officer is in serious condition at a local hospital following a crash at a busy Harrisburg intersection on Monday.
The crash happened shortly after noon on Cameron Street north of Market Street. Initial reports indicate the Capitol Police vehicle was traveling north, slowed down and then stopped. It was hit from behind by another vehicle.
The Capitol Police officer and the driver of the second car have not been identified.
While their injuries are believed to be serious, they do not appear to be life threatening. A witness said although the air bag deployed in the private car, the driver still cracked the windshield with her head. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
The crash is under investigation by Harrisburg Police. The state Department of General Services, which oversees the operation of the Capitol Police, is also reviewing the incident.
