A Cumberland County School District looking to increase revenue is turning to advertising for help.
There's still some discussion to come on how they'll implement the plan, but the West Shore School District has taken the step of hiring a marketing firm to do the job.
“We'll come in and we'll decide on an area with the help of the school board and school officials,” stated Jeff Bertoni of Market Street Sports Group. “Decide on if it's an appropriate area that some naming rights can be done. So it will start with some signage.”
Lancaster-based Market Street Sports Group has entered into a three-year agreement with the West Shore School District, the goal, to bring in sponsorship revenue for the district.
“Realistically with a district like West Shore, because there are two high schools that we're dealing with the inventory probably will give us somewhere around $200,000 to $300,000 worth of inventory,” explained Bertoni. “From there our hope is to start out within the first year to probably year and a half getting them around $100,000 dollars in revenue that is coming into the district.”
The marketing firm will reportedly receive 30 percent of whatever the district is able to bring in through things like selling corporate naming rights, sponsorships, commercial advertising, and signage. As for how successful this approach will be, Bertoni told CBS 21 “we're very realistic when we come into a school district and we let them know that this is a way to supplement the revenue stream that's coming in and perhaps save a program or two or retain a teacher or two that might have been cut because of budget cuts.”
