If you’re on track to retire at age 65 then consider yourself lucky.
RetirementFor a growing number of middle-class Americans retirement might not arrive until the ripe age of 80.
According to a new Wells Fargo study 30% of middle-class American believe they will need to work until they are at least 80-years-old in order to retire comfortably.
That’s up from 25% who said the same last year.
Wells Fargo surveyed 1,000 middle-class Americans (see bottom of the story for how that’s defined) between 25 and 75 about their retirement prospects. Most them (52%) said their most important financial concern is paying the monthly bills–that’s up from 37% last year. Saving for retirement was second with just 16% saying it is a key concern.
Even if they could physically work at age most of them (73%) said their employer wouldn’t be okay with it.
