If you're a price-conscious flyer who wants to head south for the winter, Harrisburg International Airport added a seventh airline with you in mind.
Flying one way from the midstate to Orlando is priced as low as $55 per passenger.
If the wind, rain and cold of Hurricane Sandy don't have you thinking about a warmer climate, maybe the right price to get you there will.
Allegiant Airline's first flight took off a Wednesday afternoon from HIA on it's way to Orlando/Sanford International Airport.
Passengers arrived early to check in for the inaugural flight. Airport officials say Orlando is the number one destination for passengers out of HIA. An estimated 130,000 men, women and children fly down and back a year. Officials say that number could go up with the new airline
Tim Edwards, Director at Harrisburg International Airport, said the airline gives travelers more options. "It provides more of an opportunity, more of a selection, and also with this particular carrier, they are a super low cost carrier. So that will have the affect of driving down air fares, particulate to the south and Florida, but potentially to other parts of the country as well."
If you are particular about where you sit on the plane, you can choose your seat for an additional $11 to $20. As for baggage, if it fits under the seat in front of you there's no charge. But you will pay a fee for luggage placed in an overhead compartment or in the belly of the plane.
Allegiant says it can provide low prices because it is not an airline. Instead it's a travel company that owns airplanes.
The company also can arrange lodging, car rentals and complete vacation packages.
On Friday, it will also launch service from HIA to the Tampa Bay, Florida area.
