Information provided by PennDOT.
PennDOT District 8 today finished installing signs and guiderail and opened the new North Sherman Street Bridge over Interstate 83 that connects Springettsbury and Spring Garden townships in York County. The bridge had been closed to traffic since Jan. 23.
PennDOT hired Kinsley Construction, Inc. of York, to conduct the nearly $9 million design/build contract that included replacing both the North Sherman Street bridge as well as the Ebert’s Lane bridge over I-83. The contractor has a list of remaining items to complete, however the bridge will be open to unrestricted traffic.
Built in 1959, the bridge that previously carried North Sherman Street over I-83 provided for only 14-feet-one-inch, 14’-1”, of under-clearance for I-83 traffic.
North Sherman Street averages more than 10,000 vehicles traveled daily.
