Word about the criminal charges filed against former university President Graham Spanier spread around the Penn State campus Thursday.
While there were plenty of people on campus that just want no part of the on-going Sandusky case and its fall-out, we found plenty of well informed people willing to react.
“To many of those who have followed the Sandusky case closely, this latest court action comes as no big surprise,” commented Penn State student Brian Schroffer.
“Well I have to say that I really used to like Spanier, we thought he was like JoePa, he was part of the Penn State community,” PSU student Jeff Walter stated. “Then when all this happened, we were really disappointed and I'm glad that justice will hopefully be served.”
There were plenty of people on the campus that think it was about time the additional criminal charges were filed.
“I mean that's pretty good, he deserved it if he covered it up and everything like that,” added a student. “It's a shame it happened here at Penn State.”
While there is a perception that a Penn State cover- up may have occurred, not every one is ready to convict the former president.
“I personally think there are some things that are unknown that will come out during the case and it could be positive or negative but I 'm not sure,” urged student Nick Pacheski.
But for many it was clear these additional charges means this case is a long way from over.
“Obviously this is going to bring it back in the news again,” stated Zac Folladaor. “But I think it has been a long time coming. I'm glad they are finally moving on it and starting to proceed in the trial and stuff like that.
A number of people on the campus told us they see these new criminal charges as one more step that had to be taken eventually.
