Monday night, The Hershey Company is presenting their plans to renovate the Hershey chocolate plant.
The Derry Township Design Review Board will have their first chance to see the plans to demolish some of the buildings on the factory campus. The goal is to re-purpose the land.
Parts of the Hershey chocolate factory plant are already being knocked down. But new plans for demolition on the east parts of the complex will be presented to the Derry Township Design Review Board Monday evening.
The Hershey Company, through a leaseback program, has a five-year, $70 million plan to renovate and improve the downtown Hershey area.
They will propose to keep five of the core buildings, which will be used as office space to house 1100 workers.
Dozens of others will need to be knocked down though.
Jeff Edleman is with the Hershey Real Estate Department. “It's sad but necessary,” Edleman told us. “Five years from now we would be very happy if we were able to move forward and truly redevelop downtown.”
As far as what would be put in place where the buildings are knocked down, Edleman says it is far too early to know, they had talked about a hotel or condo,
Again that meeting is at 6 p.m. and we will be there to bring you the latest.
