A terrifying couple of hours for an Amish family in Lancaster County as a three year old went missing for more than 10 hours. But she has been found safe.
This story does come with a happy ending. After nearly half a day missing, the young girl was found without any serious injuries. She was just sleeping in between two rows of corn.It began as harmless fun, but it nearly turned into a nightmare. Last night, a three year old Amish girl was playing, running in and out of corn fields with her siblings on their family's farm in Pequea Township. But one time when she ran in, she didn't come out.
John Fiorill, Southern Regional Police:
"I would say it was a tremendous relief. From the start we expected she had fallen asleep in a corn field. But there's always that what if.”
The girl went missing around 8:00pm, within hours many from the Amish community had joined to find her. By one this morning, she still hadn't been found, so the family called authorities. Soon after more than 100 people were looking for her; firemen, medics, bloodhounds and even a helicopter joined in.John Fiorill:
“When they did find her, you could actually her the excitement from the rescue person that had the radio. But you could her everybody else in the background chearing that they found her. So that's a good sign.”
Police say the parents of the child will not face any charges.
Search crews have found a girl who had been missing for over 10 hours.
The Amish girl went missing Thursday evening, and parents called for help around midnight.
Crews, which included numerous Amish men, used dogs and helicopters to search areas near Byerland Church Road, where she had last been seen. At one point over 100 people were helping with the search.
The girl was found sleeping in a field near her home and did not have any serious injuries.
