The 23-year-old man who claimed he was sexually abused by Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo, is changing his story. One day later the accuser is saying through his lawyer the relationship was “consensual”.
The accuser was being represented by Andreozzi and Associates, a firm in Harrisburg, which also represented a victim in the Sandusky sex abuse case.
But this case, involving the voice of Elmo, appears to be shut.
One day after there was supposed evidence that Kevin Clash had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a minor, comes the statement from the accuser’s attorney, “he wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship.”
Clash followed with his own statement, from a spokesperson, “I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest. I will not discuss it further.”
So that’s it? What happened here, was there some kind of monetary settlement? Or was Monday’s media coverage too intense for the accuser?
“When there’s a lot of backlash, the victim doesn’t feel believed; they often recant, quickest way to move away from the situation,” explained Kristin Houser.
Houser is the Vice President of Communications with the PA Coalition Against Rape, explains that based on her experience in the field with similar cases, she’s willing to believe something did happen as the relationship’s age gap remains suspect.
“Even if not illegal based on state laws, it still seems inappropriate,” Houser told us.
Offenders gain access to victims by looking trustworthy, Houser says, so just like Sandusky and The Second Mile, accusations against the man behind “a kid’s show sensation” shouldn’t be shocking.
“This is one more reminder that we can’t just inherently trust people because we like what they do for a living.”

According to the New York Times, Mr. Clash said through a spokesman: “I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest. I will not discuss it further.”

CBS 21 has learned from Andreozzi and Associates that the relationship between the victim they were representing and Kevin Clash, who voiced Elmo, was legal.
The law firm issued the following statement, "This office represented the 23 year old man who was the subject of many media reports regarding Kevin Clash.
He wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship.
He will have no further comment on the matter."
