Help Wanted - State Jobs

The State Civil Service Commission office in Strawberry Square in downtown Harrisburg is where you can go to apply for jobs and take the necessary tests.
That's right, each state job has a corresponding test based on the skills needed for that position.
Miranda Sandstrom, Chief Recruiter for the office says the tests are free, but required.

Sandstrom says, "so they apply for a specific job title, take that test and provided they pass, will get the results in the mail. The hiring is done from a list and the top scoring candidates are the ones who are contacted and asked for an interview."

Because there's a heavy push for veterans to apply, each honorably discharged vet who takes the test, will automatically get an extra ten points added to their score.

Yes it's Thanksgiving, but the job search doesn't take a holiday. In fact, on the Civil Service website there's an Immediate Needs section that tells you what jobs are available right now.

Sandstrom says, "it tells you the location of the vacancy which many are in the Harrisburg area. It tells you the location, the starting salary, minimum requirements and a little bit about the job, so you can get a good idea if you'd be interested or not."

Sandstrom says right now there are positions available in healthcare, IT, engineering and social services among a wide variety of other postings.
Certainly finding a job over the holidays is something to be thankful for.
