Some authorities suggest that more people party and drink around the Thanksgiving Holiday than any other Holiday.
Harrisburg officials are warning revelers to drink and act responsibly.
As workers were stringing holiday lights along North Second Street, family and friends were heading to the midstate. Many use it as an opportunity to get together with old friends they haven't seen since last thanksgiving. And why not meet downtown over an alcoholic beverage or two.
With that in mind, Harrisburg police gave fair warning today not to drink and drive. Police will conduct organized roving patrols looking for impaired motorists. Uniformed and plain-clothed police will also be out in greater numbers downtown and midtown.
Police also recommend partiers take other active steps to be safe.
Captain Annette Oates with the Harrisburg Police says stay aware of your surroundings when you're out. "During the Holidays we experience an increase in crime, especially robberies. Some safety tips: ensure your vehicles are locked and that you have no valuables visible. When walking after dark, stay to main streets and well lit areas not alleys."
So whether you're having turkey and filling, ham and sweet potatos or any other family favorites, you've been warned to drive and act sensibly.
