As the $250 Million Powerball drawing gets closer, Central PA residents are lining up to buy tickets

People all around the country and right here in Central Pennsylvania are heading to the store to try their luck and hopefully bring home some cash.

The drawing will be held around 11:15, and the odds of winning are 1 in 175 million.

Wednesday night, hours before the drawing, many were out in the Susquehanna Valley buying tickets and trying their luck.

George Cook said he doesn’t normally play lottery, but with the jackpot this high, he decided to try it. “At this amount I kinda got to get into it, ya know what I mean?

That’s the mindset for a lot of people across the Susquehanna Valley. Some people at the gas stations we went to said they have been busy all day, selling way more Powerball tickets than normal.

“The Gulf off Linglestown road is a really lucky place, and as you can see, there have been a lot of winners here in the past who have won a lot of money,” one ticket buyer told us.

In the past year, 234 Pennsylvanians have combined to win $205 million through the Powerball, and overnight, that number could double.

Most people we talked to who bought tickets had a similar plan if they won the jackpot.

“If I won I would probably donate a lot of it to some needy causes. I would help my family definitely, and from there, we would go from there,” Cook said.

Pat Warren, said he would donate money.   “I would help as many people as I could.”

“I’d pay off all our bills, donate money to different charities, my church, Kingdom Embassy, different churches I donate money to and help my kids along the way,” explained Anna Banks.

While many would help their community and donate money to different charities, some others would take some time for themselves and see the world.

David Chu, plays the lottery a couple times a month, he says he would take the money and travel the world.   “I’d like to travel Europe, South America, even Africa, things like that. I mean, it’s a big world, with that much money, there’s a lot of opportunities you can take advantage of.”

If no one wins the lottery, it will be worth a lot more for Saturday’s drawing.
