UPDATE:

Fire crews were dispatched to a home in the 12000 block of Susquehanna Trail for a house fire with entrapment and a person in cardiac arrest, according to Shrewsbury Fire Chief Tony Myers.

Once they arrived, they found an elderly male unresponsive in the kitchen. He was removed from the home and CPR was started immediately.

The man was treated by paramedics and taken to York Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Chief believes a malfunctioning hot water heater caused the house to fill with smoke and carbon monoxide.

The gas meter used by fire crews read well over 500 parts per million, meaning the effects would have been immediate.
