November 28, 2012. Carlisle, PA. The United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County Student Leadership Council, Kohl’s and the Women’s Leadership Council will be holding the 2nd Gifts that Give on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County office located at 145 South Hanover Street in Carlisle. The kick-off was held on November 12th with the goal of trying to collect 400 gifts for the event. As of today, November 28th, only about 200 gifts were donated. An additional 200 gifts are still needed for the event.
The Gifts that Give event is being held to help local homeless children and very low income children identified by local schools to have a chance to choose a free gift for their mom and/or dad this holiday season. Many times at the holiday there are many organizations and companies who graciously give gifts to local homeless and low income children but the children usually don’t have a gift that they can give to their mom and/or dad at the holidays. This program allows them to have a gift to give too.
Last year over 170 children were able to do “free shopping” as part of this event to choose a gift for their mom and/or dad to give to them at the holidays. This year it is anticipated that over 400 gifts are needed for this event. The 2012 Gifts that Give event will be held on December 8th. Gifts or cash donations to purchase gifts are needed and we are asking for the communities help.
Gifts that are suitable for a mom and/or dad are being accepted at the United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County office located at 145 South Hanover Street in Carlisle between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Cash donations are also being accepted.
