Monday night, Harrisburg's City Council selected finalists to fill Councilwoman Patty Kim's seat starting next year.
The debt crisis, tax deductions and safer streets. You've heard it before, but in one night to hear 32 different approaches towards fixing Harrisburg's problems, that was a new experience.
32 Candidates for one empty seat, and a room full of pledges and promises.
Each of those candidates was given two minutes to persuade at least one council member to name them a finalist.
When all was said and done, City Council picked Floyd Stokes, Joseph Solomon, a former district judge, Bruce Weber, a former city worker, Mike Parker and representing a more youthful demographic, 33-year-old Julie Bancroft and 27-year-old Latasha Fry.
The youthful voice may not make them front runners, but it did help them in the running.
Those six individuals were interviewed for a second time Monday evening.
On December 11, council will select one of them to fill Patty Kim's seat. It will be a one-year obligation until Kim’s term comes to an end, and then the person selected would have to run again in the election.
