A Springettsbury Township resident called police on December 14, after a man called her saying he was collecting unpaid taxes.
The resident reported that the man called her and said he was Officer John Wright of the US Government Office of Enforcement. He told her that there was a warrant for her arrest due to unpaid taxes and she needed to pay $800.00 to avoid going to jail.
The male also told her that he will call local police and have her arrested if she didn't pay.
The resident called the IRS and they told her that they do not solicit unpaid taxes and there was no US Government Office of Enforcement.
Residents are reminded to never give personal information such as social security numbers, credit card information, or bank account numbers over the phone or e-mail. If you have any doubts or suspicions about a phone call, contact the police department for clarification.
