'Dan' leaves some Pa. cell phone users confused

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — "Dan" created confusion in central Pennsylvania when it briefly became the name of the network for some users of AT&T's wireless cellphone network.

AT&T solved the mystery Wednesday, saying it was fixing the issue and switching the "alpha tag" back to "AT&T" on smartphone screens in the 717 area code.

AT&T says there was no impact to customers' wireless service, but some customers say it affected their ability to access some data services, such as iTunes.

Service representatives told some customers that the network had inadvertently connected to an older mobile network.

Some people found they were able to restore the "AT&T" designation by resetting their network settings. Others who believed the switch was a hacking problem replaced their SIM cards.
