PITTSBURGH (AP) — A prosecutor has toured the wild African dogs exhibit at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium where a 2-year-old boy was fatally mauled last month when he fell off a wooden rail into the enclosure.
A spokesman says Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. would be issuing a statement on Thursday's tour, which was announced by the zoo in a news release.
Zappala announced last week that 34-year-old Elizabeth Derkosh won't be prosecuted in the death of her son, Maddox, which Zappala called a "tragic accident."
The boy, who had vision issues, leaned forward and fell into the exhibit after his mother lifted him onto the rail.
Zappala has said his investigation continues to review whether anyone at the zoo contributed to the boy's death, and how to prevent future accidents.
