The Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia confirms that they filed an appeal to the ruling on the Voter ID legislation.
The appeal, which is filed with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, could take one of many outcomes.
The Voter ID law goes into effect Sept. 17, unless the Pennsylvania Supreme Court decides otherwise.
That is what those fighting against the legislation want.
The Executive Director for the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia provided a few statements regarding what's next for the appeal.
Jennifer Clarke stated not only did they file an appeal Thursday, they also submitted a possible timeline.
“We are asking the court to hear the case on an expedited basis with our brief due August 24,
the state's brief due August 31 and our reply brief due Sept. 7th.”
She went on to state they hope to have opening arguments scheduled for September 10 -14.
But she also stated, “This is what we are requesting, it is up to the court to decide the schedule. The court has to take the appeal; this is an "appeal of right". But the court doesn't have to hear it quickly. We hope they will.”
Commonwealth Court Judge Simpson upheld the Voter ID law on Wednesday.
