In the past few decades, schools and colleges have become the locations for numerous fatal shootings.
To help police prepare for the many issues that can arise in one of these events, an active shooter exercise was held at Thaddeus Stevens Technical College on Thursday.
Studies of these recent events have shown that police need to be better prepared to handle the events.
The exercise allowed State Police, Lancaster Police, the Lancaster County SERT team, Manheim Township Police, West Hempfield Township Police, East Cocalico Township Police Department, East Lampeter Township Police Department, Lititz Borough Police Department, Ephrata Police Department, New Holland Police Department, and Manor Township Police Department to work together.
Funding for the exercise was provided by the South Central Task Force, which is made up of emergency responders from Lancaster, Dauphin, Lebanon, Cumberland, Perry, Franklin, Adams and York Counties.
