We are leaning more about what happened leading up to a murder at a motel off Route 30 in Lancaster this past weekend.

Police are telling us that Jeffrey Brent was stabbed to death early Sunday morning. Since then, there has been an outpouring of support online for the 24-year-old from Maryland who moved to Lancaster six years ago.

“Yes, there is a violent person on the loose, but we do believe this is an isolated incident,” stated East Lampeter Township Police Lieutenant Robin Weaver.

Early Sunday morning, police were called to the Budget Host Inn on the 2100 block of Lincoln Highway East and found 24-year-old Jeff Brent dead, lying on the floor of the lobby. Police say he was stabbed in the rear parking lot and somehow made his way inside the motel.

The news of Brent’s death was followed by an outpouring of grief online. One person wrote on Facebook, “We loved him, we prayed for him, we hugged him a lot but not enough. He was the most devoted friend a person could ever have. My heart is heavy, but my love is strong. May God bless, and keep his soul with him because as much hell as Jeff received here on earth, he truly deserves the peace and love of heaven. We will find the baseless coward who took his life.” – Bill Brent

But while police try to find the person his killer, they are being careful what information is being released.

“We understand there is a fine line between public interest and the integrity of the investigation,” Weaver told us. “If we thought there was a danger to the public we would certainly release that information and make the public aware of that.”

If you have any information on this homicide, you are asked to call the East Lampeter Township Police Department.
