Also, below is the statement on Central Dauphin's School District regarding school safety:
The impact of the tragedy that took place at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut has no doubt, affected all of us in school districts and communities throughout the nation. The Central Dauphin School District joins with schools across the country in expressing our sympathy and support to the community of Newtown, Connecticut.
I assure you that Central Dauphin School District has student and staff safety as its highest priority. We met on Sunday, December 16th with the principals from all 19 school buildings and representatives from state and local law enforcement agencies to discuss our current practices and steps we can take to make our buildings even more secure.
You can be certain that in light of this tragedy, we will conduct an in-depth review of our plans in the coming weeks and refine our practices should that be necessary. In the coming days, you may see a heightened police presence near our schools. You will also note minor changes in the process for allowing people into our buildings. All visitors must be prepared to show identification upon being admitted to the schools and must report directly to the main office.
Friday’s events are a terrible shock to all of us. During this period of heightened awareness, we need all the adults in our children’s lives, including all school employees and parents to work together and reassure our children that safeguards are in place to provide a safe environment for learning in our schools. Should your child feel upset or worried about coming to school, please remind them that our school counselors will be available to talk to them. To further assist parents and guardians, we will post parent resources at this bottom of this message on how to discuss such an event with your child.
While we may never understand why this tragedy occurred, Central Dauphin remains committed to protecting the safety of all of our students and staff through planning, preparation and vigilance. -
If you have any specific concerns, as always, please feel free to contact your student’s school.
