Charges were filed Monday against Maria Rodano, 61, of Lancaster, for an alleged scheme to collect benefits intended for her grandmother after her grandmother’s death.
Rodano tried to collect Social Security Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance benefits intended for her grandmother.
Rodano did this by failing to report her grandmother’s death to the Social Security Administration.
In addition, Rodano failed to report that she received the money when she applied for supplemental security income benefits herself.
The total loss in the scheme to the government is $86,778.
If convicted, Rodano could face 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, along with paying back the $86,778.
