With the Mayan Calendar coming to an end tomorrow and the recent shooting in Newtown, many schools in the area have received threats of violence, and some people say security needs to be increased at our local schools.

Many schools in the Susquehanna Valley have received threats that most administrators say are nothing more than rumors, but that isn’t stopping schools from being on high alert tomorrow.

In wake of the deadly school shooting in New Town where 20 children and 6 adults were shot, schools across the country are on high alert heading into winter break.

Some administrations say the threats are related to the end of the Mayan calendar.  Eastern York, Fairfield, Central Dauphin, Solanco, West Perry, and Cumberland Valley all received threats of violence.

Many of these schools and are planning for extra security and for assistance from police to make sure that all students are safe.

A topic that many are discussing is – should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school in order to keep themselves and their students safe in case of an emergency.

While some people think this is going overboard, others think that this could be a viable solution.

Representative Stephen Bloom of Cumberland County spoke to Robb Hanrahan about school security on Face the State.  "I think it would be appropriate for schools to have security. I dont think that is something that should be banned. We need to be protecting our kids just like any other government institution."
