A student arrested for bringing a gun to school, just a week after the Connecticut school shooting.
Several schools throughout our area are on high alert and in Chambersburg the extra security measures proved to be working
It happened as school was beginning. The school district says it was imperative to keep information flowing to keep parents and students informed as to what happened.
“It's a call I never expected to get but I did,” explained Bill Johnson, parent of a senior at the school.
“As soon as you hear ‘this the school district and someone has a weapon’, it’s scary,” added Jodi Furry, who has a student in tenth grade.
Chambersburg Area School District confirms around 845 a.m., a teacher was told that an eleventh grade male student came to school with a gun.
“We immediately went to the student at 815, the students with the paint, and we did find the child was in possession of a weapon a BB pistol,” commented Assistant Superintendent Cathy Dusmond.
The superintendent to Chambersburg Area School District says as soon as the situation happened, the phone call was made to all the parents.
“We were very clear there was a gun and 11th grade students were involved and the students with now in police custody,” Dusmond told us.
“I appreciated it I was in town and people were talking at the cash register in it was nice to know I already know about it,” Furry told us.
The school district is not releasing if it was a student or an adult that reported the student with a gun but they said they would rather focus on how one person who knew some information made a difference and reported it.
