York Daily Record sportswriter Steve Navaroli makes it his life’s work to bring the attention to the athletes he covers never tohimself.  But after announcing his throat cancer diagnosis in an October 7th edition of the paper, that all changed.

Steve is a father of two, a husband, and he’s been at the York Daily Record for more than twenty years.

Full disclosure, I've known Steve for seven of those years, from when he was a weekly guest on my York College radio show.

In July of this year, Steve was diagnosed with Stage 3 throat cancer, despite never using tobacco.

He wasn't angry.

"What would I do if it was my kids, my wife, No I’ll take it, I can handle it being me rather than my wife or children."  Steve once weakened voice now booming.

"That was my approach since day one and that hasn’t changed."

Will Massey and Emily Schmittle are members of the York Suburban swim team.  No one covers swimming in York County like Steve Navaroli.  Steve, of course, covered the careers of both Emily and Will.

And they never forgot.

Will and Emily started a nation.  The Navaroli Nation took off on Facebook and with lots of ink, screen printing ink.

An initial order of seventy two shirts, has exploded into over eight hundred sales.  The shirts cost ten dollars, with half of the cost going back to the Navaroli family.

You can order your shirt by sending an email to NavNation@gmail.com.

Steve has several follow-up appointment scheduled early next year as he continues his fight.
