Clergy, friends and close family of Adreanne Evans gathered on the street outside the home where she was murdered last week. The 21-year-old victim's mother and infant son joined in the vigil.
21-year-old Adreanne Evans was shot and killed by a former boyfriend. 37-year-old Leganza Junious turned himself in to police shortly after.
Today community gathered on Pear Street out front of the building where the victim lived and died in a second floor apartment.
"This was the 12th homicide of the year," said Pastor Belita Mitchell. "And it marks the fourth time in as many weeks that we've had to gather and stand in memory of one who was slain."
In attendance today was the victim's mother, Sage Evans and the victim's son, Adrian. Both of whom were in the apartment when she was killed.
Sage Evans said, "My daughter tried to get away from this gentleman numerous times. We called the police. We had PDA's against him. The baby was not left alone when the shooting happened. I was int he house with him. I witnessed it. I laid on top of him to protect him."
The community members said prayers, sang songs and lit candles.
Pastor A.J. Briley said, "To the family members, be strong, be courageous. Trust God is our prayer."
