Highway crews are keeping their eyes on the mid-state’s roadways Wednesday evening. Rising temperatures followed by falling temperatures could bring a cover of ice, making travel hazardous.

Some drivers reported to work as early as four in the morning. Others started later in the day, looking at 12-hour shifts.

Seat belt on and window shield clean, Mike left PennDOT’s district headquarters just after lunch. At the start, road conditions weren’t too bad, but Interstate 81 northbound became a different story.

Beside the weather, motorists can be the worst part of his day. Mike offered drivers some advice.

Although they travel alone, each driver is prepared to help out a colleague.

PennDOT crews will be working through out the night. The plan is to have major and secondary roads in good condition for Thursday’s rush hour commute.
