UPDATE:
A firefighter is in stable condition at Harrisburg Hospital. Authorities say he was hit by a driver as he closed the roadway during a suicide investigation.
Around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, State Police were called to an address off of Heather Lane near Mountain Road, also known as Route 325 in Middle Paxton Township.
Neighbors, like Alicia Altlend, didn't know what to think. " We're not sure what was going on. We had no idea what was going on."
State Police found a 36-year-old Middle Paxton Township man, dead in a field. Authorities say he shot himself.
As they processed the scene and removed the body, Dauphin/ Middle Paxton firefighters closed the roadway. Lieutenant Ryan Boyer was one of them and noticed a pickup truck heading towards him, but it wasn't slowing down.
Fire Chief Michael Fagan says Boyer tried to stop the woman. "He was standing outside the vehicle waving, vehicle was stationary with the blue lights running he was waving his hands trying to get the vehicle to stop. And i guess he figured it wasn't going to happen, he tried to get out of there, buthe fell and bounced off the vehicle."
Fagan says Leuitenant Boyer was taken to Harrisburg Hospital. "It's a bad situation. I'm just thankful the reports I just got say he's in stable condition, on his was to be checked out."
The chief tells CBS 21 that it appears the woman who hit the fire fighter with her truck was impaired.
The investigation continues into the accident and into the suicide.
