State Police were called Wednesday evening to deal with a riot at an Adams County juvenile psychiatric facility. Troopers responded to Hoffman Homes for Youth in Littlestown for assistance.
State Police say seven juveniles were taken into custody following the melee. They are being housed in a secure juvenile facility.
Those teens face charges ranging from misdemeanors to felonies.
The home’s administrator says Hoffman is not a lock down facility or a juvenile detention center. So the on-site supervisor needed assistance and called State Police for assistance, which they say is a rarity.
State Police say the juveniles armed themselves with pool sticks, metal fence posts and anything else they could pick up. Several staff members suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
The administrator says 90 percent of the population has a history of aggressive behavior. That's why they're there for treatment.
An Adams County juvenile judge will review the incident to determine who can return to Hoffman Homes and which ones will be transferred to a secure facility.
