A book that detailed the life of famed Penn State coach Joe Paterno could soon be made into a movie and Al Pacino is slated to play JoePa.
He’s a legendary actor who has played legendary roles, but quite possibly none as challenging as this one. Reports are Al Pacino is slated to play Joe Paterno in an upcoming movie about the last two years of the coach’s life.
The movie is based off Joe Posnanski’s biography on Paterno that hit number one on the New York Times best seller list earlier this summer. The storyline is obvious; a man becomes the winningest college football coach in history, is idolized by untold millions, and in his dying days watched his legacy collapse when a former coach is convicted of pedophilia.
Numerous Hollywood reports say that the movie is currently being shopped to studios with Pacino in the lead role and his manager as the producer.
The 72-year-old Pacino is best known for his role as Michael Corleone in the Godfather trilogy and Tony Montana in Scarface, but he does have a football movie on his resume: 1999’s Any Given Sunday.
This movie is still a far way from happening. A deal still needs to be made, a script needs to be written and it also needs a director before filming can begin.
That means there is no word as to whether or not the filming could take place in Pennsylvania.
