Police made an arrest in a scrap metal theft after they received a report of a theft in progress at Hanover Iron Works, in Heidelberg Township, York County. The theft happened around 9 p.m. on Wednesday September 26.
John Russell Lehigh of the 1000 block of Abbottstown Pike, was charged with theft, possession of stolen property, and trespassing. A witness saw a Lehigh taking large pieces of metal from around the outside of the building and putting it on the back of a trailer pulled by a pick-up truck.
The witness reported the description of the truck and an officer from a neighboring township, spotted the vehicle and stopped it. He was assisted by a Southwest Regional Police Officer who confirmed the suspect did not have permission to be at the location or to have possession of the pieces of metal.
