A man who was stealing candy from children at the Carlisle Halloween Parade Monday night was sent to the hospital after he got in a fight with a police officer.
The incident happened at South Hanover and Pomfret Streets in Carlisle. People at the parade say a man was shoving kids aside in order to get Halloween candy thrown out to the crowd and when an officer approached him, the man punched the police officer right in the face.
The incident happened just before 8 p.m. along the parade route after according to bystanders, Fredrick Pisano had been rude and disruptive.
After 51-year-old Pisano punched the police officer in the face, a fight broke out and eventually the officer was able to gain control of Pisano, tasering him twice.
An ambulance was called to the scene to check out Pisano who was unconscious after the fight, and later he was transported to Carlisle Regional Medical Center where he was in stable condition.
Police believe Pisano may have underlying health problems that may have led to his violent outburst, but those on scene agree the officer did the right thing.
"We do have a number of statements, verbal statements from uninvolved witnesses there were many people there, present, so we did get some very good accounts of it in addition to the officer's account which corroborates the officer’s accounts and his actions," explained Carlisle Police Chief Stephen Margeson.
While the incident is still under investigation, Pisano will likely face charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
Police believe there may have been pictures or videos of the incident taken by people at the parade. If you recorded any of the fight, you're asked to contact Carlisle Police to assist in their investigation.
