Prisoners released because of bed bugs returned to York County Prison this weekend, but there’s been another case of the bugs invading jail cells.

The two aren’t related, according to county leaders. The recent bed bugs were found in the female wing, while the previous ones were discovered in the male work release section.

The bed bugs in the female wing were found Fridayin an area where inmates are held when they first report.

Male and female inmates are housed separately, on different sides of the prison lot so the two bed bug discoveries are not linked.

Two weeks ago, there was a larger outbreak in the work release area of the prison.

90 male inmates were sent home for a long weekend so their living quarters could be exterminated. The men returned Sunday.

County leaders say health officials do not classify bed bugs as a health threat, but they still need to get rid of them.

This most recent bed bug issue is believed to be contained to one new prisoner. The problem in the female wing is believed to be under control.
