In campaign 2012 coverage, a night of debates as we countdown to the November election.

Earlier Monday evening, sparks flew in the first and only debate between the two candidates vying for Pennsylvania Attorney General.

Cumberland County District Attorney David Freed and former Lackawanna County Prosecutor Kathleen Kane squared off in Harrisburg. The Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case took center stage.

“He will not be trusted by Pennsylvanians to have the independence to speak up and against the Governor, he has shown that in the questions regarding the Jerry Sandusky case,” cited Prosecutor Kathleen Kane.

“We have a stark difference in the use of the grand jury,” offered District Attorney Dave Freed. “As chief law enforcement officer, I would never put a limit on any investigative tool. You use what the right tool is for the case.”

Sparks started flying at Monday night's debate as the first question concerned a future Sandusky investigation. Kane accused Freed of flip-flopping on his opinion and being slow and not aggressive.

Freed claimed he had limitations to what he could say as a sitting prosecutor.

“For 12 consecutive times, Freed said nothing happened he would review, he won't get it, the grand jury was appropriate, the grand jury speaks for itself, then the Philly Inquirer poll came out saying that people want more,” commented Kane.

“I said one thing while the case was going on because unlike my opponent I am a sitting prosecutor and there are rules I have to follow about commenting on cases, especially cases where I'll be handling the appeal,” explained Freed. “Once the verdict was done when I talked about my belief about how the case was handled and what I would do to make sure the public knew exactly what happened “

They disagreed on a Sandusky probe, but both candidates promised if elected, to make better use of technology and crack down on gun violence.

Freed and Kane also say they would make consumer protection a priority.
