Speed up voter ID misinformation case, ACLU says

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Lawyers led by the American Civil Liberties Union want a state judge to speed up a case asking Gov. Tom Corbett's administration to clearly broadcast the message that voters don't have to show photo ID on Election Day.

Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson said Wednesday he wants a response in seven days. But the ACLU says they're asking for a shorter response time so there's time to appeal before the Nov. 6 election.

Simpson halted the requirement Oct. 2 over concerns some voters would be disenfranchised.

The lawyers say the Corbett administration's done virtually nothing to change a media campaign or the perception that ID is required, and has continued to distribute false information.

Corbett, a Republican, signed the politically charged law over Democrats' protests that it would disenfranchise voters.
