Superstorm Sandy knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people in our area.

According to PPL, earlier Tuesday night they had about 340,000 people without power in the Susquehanna Valley. Crews have been working around the clock to bring that number down.

PPL says, the main message here is that the storm spared our area.

PPL Foreman Michael Summers said they worked with other companies as well to make sure power was restored to residents as soon as possible.  "We had four poles that came down onto the road and they were Verizon poles so we were working with Verizon.  They put the poles up and we put the wire back up."

The power lines were dangerously close to Jonestown Road in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County.  Summers says crews worked all day to bring them back to life. "We'll have 9 businesses still out of power.  Once the main line is put back in they should be back tomorrow."

Summers says the constant rain has been a challenge to get the power restored. "There's certain things that we can't do in the rain as far as energizing primary lines.  We have to go different methods to do it."

PPL says we dodged a bullet with this storm because most of the outages are in the Eastern parts of the state.
