Storms of this nature can cause panic to many. Superstorm Sandy left behind a trail of flooding, downed power lines and trees on cars and homes throughout the area.
Susquehanna Valley resident Nick Caruso experienced damage from the storm first-hand. "Heard my wife and daughter and son screaming. I threw on my clothes and ran out the house and we saw the tree and everything that happened. Since it happened so quickly i just assumed the worst."
But it wasn't the worst. Other Dauphin County homeowners experienced trees falling into their homes too.
Sandy didn't bring out the best in one York woman either as she dove into the Codorus Creek to 'as she says' save ducks from increasing rough water and crews had to rescue her from the rushing water. Police say alcohol was a factor.
Parts of a condemned building in Susquehanna Township collapsed from wind gusts, tearing off the front and sides of the building.
Some residents in Dover Township, like Gene Whitecamp, say winds were so strong it seemed like a tornado went through their neighborhood. Even knocking a trailer off its foundation. "First thing that hit me i thought tornado. Nah it's not that," Whitecamp explained.
Officials did say it wasn't a tornado that went through the area. Whitecamp says other trailers in the area were damaged but weren't knocked off the foundation. "They got skirting up off their trailers and not quite as bad as right here I guess this hit it direct."
Sandy brought out the best in some areas though. Firefighters rescued families as their homes became victim to rising flood waters in multiple townships.
