Attorneys, The Second Mile called to court over possible transfer

A judge ordered attorneys to court in September after Jerry Sandusky's foundation, The Second Mile, announced it wants to transfer assets to another organization.

Several victims are asking the court to put a stop to it.

The attorneys for several of the victims have asked the transfer be blocked. The attorneys want to make sure there is money for their victims.

Even before Jerry Sandusky's June conviction of sexually abusing young boys, many he met through The Second Mile. Attorneys for victims and alleged victims began filing lawsuits against the organization back in November when charges first came down.

In the 700 page filing, the transfer would be to Arrow PA which is a Texas organization founded by a PA man who was abused as a child. Arrow already has a presence in PA and holds state certifications for dealing with children.

Attorneys for the victims contest that with all of the impending lawsuits if money is taken out of The Second Mile's name then there will be none to pay out to victims.

The Second Mile's insurer doesn't have a cent.

One attorney writes "there is ample basis that The Second Mile will incur debts beyond its ability to pay. Debts from tort liability may readily exceed to total assets."

The judge is calling for a status conference in September. Sandusky's sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
