A familiar sound returned Thursday along with a familiar sight. Those unmistakable red kettles from The Salvation Army.
Chief Meteorologist Tom Russell was there for the celebration.
“It means Christmas has officially kicked off!” exclaimed one person.
The bells ring in the holiday season, but for The Salvation Army it is about much more than a merry sound.
“This Christmas, 1,140 are on our Christmas Assistance List that is over 3,000 children, so thank you for your support,” explained Kathy Anderson-Martin, Director of Philanthropy for The Salvation Army. “If they see a red kettle they should put in coins, dollars in.”
Now, when you don't have any change, new technology lets you still be generous
“This year there is a QR code on the sign, scan or text a donation right to The Salvation Army Harrisburg!” exclaimed Anderson-Martin. “And we have 100 small desktop kettles so that businesses can collect money for The Salvation Army.”
So when you see the red kettle don't do the "I don't see you, I don't see you, I don't see you" or the "oh I just got a very important message on my phone."
Just drop what you can in the red kettle and it's in giving that you will receive this holiday season.
