UPDATE: Pedestrian killed after being struck by train

UPDATE:

On Tuesday just before 5 p.m., Columbia Borough Police learned that a person had been struck by a train.

Officers found the victim, a 26-year-old man from Ephrata, laying on the tracks behind the Columbia Fire Company, between Union and Locust Streets.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by the Norfolk Southern train, which was headed to the Harrisburg area from Lancaster.

The man was pronounced dead at Lancaster General Hospital.

The man's identity is not being released until family can be notified.

A pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being struck by a train just before 5 p.m.

The accident occurred in Columbia Borough at the Union Street overpass.

The patient was rushed to Lancaster General Hospital.
