A mother who lost her son when he was hit by a driver in a crosswalk took her message to the Capitol Thursday.

Owen Brezitski was just eight-years-old when he was killed in front of Bishop McDevitt High School.

His mother approached Representative Ron Marsico about legislation that would prevent others from being hurt or killed in crosswalks.

It turned into House Bill 2614 and testimony was heard by house members Thursday morning.

It would change the way drivers have to handle crosswalks. Instead of just yielding to pedestrians, drivers would need to stop and then yield.

A PennDOT spokesperson testified that between 2002 and 2011, there were 176 fatalities in crosswalks.

The last person to testify was Owen's mother.
